Angola: Freedom of the Press Under the Regime's "Claw"

 According to internal analyses, the current unpopularity of the party, identified as the cause of the upheavals it went through in the last elections (overcome thanks to fraud), is also a consequence of the role of the “independent media”, including social networks, in obscuring its image and, at the same time, in praising the opposition, represented by UNITA.

It is also recognized that JOÃO LOURENÇO (JL) was the main target of this action, which is why it is considered that his figure is more worn out than that of the party itself. The control of the media sector in general that the regime proposes to achieve has the immediate purpose of containing the disrepute of JL's image and launching his recovery.

MPLA, Cabinet for Studies and Strategic Analysis (GEAE) and Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), are the entities of the regime that intervene on a larger scale in the definition and conduct of policies and/or measures for the media – acting alone or in concert with each other.
