The dragging of the political crisis has contributed to an even greater weakening of state institutions, increasing the permeability of the country to phenomena such as drug trafficking (AM 1195) and trafficking in rare woods (AM 1194). In these cases, smuggling is ensured by customs-level corruption, controlled by the military, operating independently of the Government, with the complicity of senior Armed Forces officials.
