Mozambique: Growing Pressure from Environmental NGOs on LNG

Linked to anti-globalization political movements (AM Special Report 58), the “Friends of the Earth” group argues that the Government is using taxpayers' money to finance projects that conflict with UK commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate. UK Export Finance (UKEF), under the supervision of the Department of International Trade (DIT), which finances the project, is accused of having failed to carry out the necessary environmental due diligence and lack of transparency.

Shortly after the decision, the British Government changed the rules, eliminating the possibility of new public financing for projects that contradict the country's environmental commitments, namely combating the use of fossil fuels. READ MORE
