Guinea-Bissau: Sissoco´s Acceptance and Credibility Improve

The internal acceptance of UMARU SISSOCO EMBALÓ (USE) as PR in Guinea-Bissau is pointed out in local influential political circles as under improvement, in a way interpreted as “clear”, since the beginning of his mandate, in FEB.2020. The evidence runs counter to bleak initial expectations, based on factors including the controversy that marked his election and his alleged unpreparedness for the post. The improvement of USE's internal and external image is also considered a reflection of disrepute phenomena in which has gradually been falling the prolonged campaign against him by DOMINGOS SIMÕES PEREIRA (DSP), his opponent in the presidential elections, claiming that his electoral victory was fraudulent. USE´s State visit to Portugal (08-09.OCT) relaunched the cooperation between the 2 Governments and PRs, with the official visit to Bissau scheduled, until 23.NOV, of the Portuguese PM, ANTÓNIO COSTA.
During the formal and informal meetings that took place during USE´s State visit, some of the few Portuguese companies in the country complained about the slowness of the processes and the deregulation of the market. READ MORE
