Retaliatory actions following the FADM offensive in the Muidumbe region (150 km from Pemba), under the control of Islamic-inspired armed groups, triggered acts of violence by insurgents in the district since the beginning of NOV. These actions had a special impact on Diaca, which the armed cells have used as a rear base. Two district capitals are already under the control of the insurgents: Mocímboa da Praia and Muidumbe.
In the past 2 weeks, armed groups have launched several attacks, notably on Nchinga, Muatide, Namacade and Muambula, locations in the district of Muidumbe, with a high number of civilian deaths.
The Muatide massacre has been triggering diverse international reactions. The French PR himself, EMMANUEL MACRON, denounced, through social media, the advance of "Islamic terrorism" in the country, specifically referring to the massacre.
