Nova Democracia (ND) party, founded in 2019 by SALOMÃO MUCHANGA (SM), a former member of RENAMO, identifies in the current political landscape conditions to assert itself as one of the main parties in the municipal elections scheduled for 2023, in direct competition with DAVIZ SIMANGO's Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), which has been losing votes and influence (AM 1213).
In view of its affirmation, ND is in an implementation and reorganization phase. The holding of the party congress in late 2021 or early 2022 is one of the steps considered essential for internal structuring. The creation of a Strategic Office to present political proposals for governance is also underway.
SM became a military officer at RENAMO but stood out for his militancy in civic movements, as Vice-President of the National Youth Council and, between 2008 and 2018, President of the Mozambican Parliament of Mozambique, an initiative that had funding from northern European countries. READ MORE
