Equatorial Guinea: Armed Forces Purge After the Bata Disaster

Without taking direct responsibility for what happened, and even trying to shift blame, "Teodorin" has already started to remove several officials from the Ministry of Defense, firing the Armed Forces leadership, alleging their responsibility for the tragedy. The firings included the chief of staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGFA) and his deputy, along with several of the main personnel responsible for staff, military maintenance and general inspection.
The new CEMGFA is Gen. LUCAS OBAMA NDONG MIKUE, who served as DG of staff in the Ministry of Defense, assisted by Deputy TERTULIANO OBAMA ALOGO, responsible for the continental region.
The aftermath of the accident points to much greater damage than initially estimated. The State shows slowness in relocating c. 250 families and in beginning the reconstruction work. READ MORE
