Angola: Fear of Losing Power “Wakes Up” MPLA

Feelings of apprehension generated by the perception that the MPLA may not be able to win the next elections, as a result of the vitality that UNITA has been revealing as the main opposition party, are identified in circles of the regime, in its various levels.
Measures and evidence of government policy are considered to be a reflection of this apprehension, such as the following:
- The appointment of BENTO BENTO (BB) as the person in charge of the MPLA structure in Luanda.
- The increased political protagonism (and inherent public visibility) that CAROLINA CERQUEIRA (CC), Minister of State for the Social Area, acquired - including in the coordination of government action related to Luanda's urban problems. READ MORE
