Mozambique: FRELIMO Central Committee Delays Decisions in Controlled Setting

Despite several sources of tension and challenges to governance, the IV Ordinary Session of the FRELIMO Central Committee (CC), (22-23.MAY), took place without disturbances, with the main decisions being set for later date.
The CC was marked by discretion, concern with the control of information and the limitation of the debate, having been held behind closed doors, under the pretext of Covid-19, with participants prohibited from using their cell phones. Many of the veterans like ÓSCAR MONTEIRO, from whom an intervention was expected, remained discreet, concerned with the course of their business activities, namely in Cabo Delgado, showing expectation but avoiding protagonist.
Pursuant to the informal internal agreements for the PR's ethnic “rotation”, FRELIMO's next presidential candidate should come from one of the country's four provinces in the center of the country. But FRELIMO is now a party led by elites from the south and maconde from Cabo Delgado. READ MORE
