Angola: Closer Relations with US Prioritary

Angola's relations with the US are considered “very incipient” when compared to those with Russia and China – the other two great powers. The scenario of an increase in its importance is associated in the aforementioned analyzes with advantages such as giving Angola's foreign policy more balance and independence.

The limitation to Russia and China of “special type” relations that Angola maintains with the great powers, is seen as an “aggravating circumstance” of the country's image, due to the connotation of the regimes of both countries with practices of lack of government transparency or disrespect for human rights.

An upcoming trip by JL to the US will coincide with the organization of an ICCF (International Conservation Caucus Foundation) conference, linked to the protection of the environment. Contacts are ongoing, via the embassy in Washington, with a view to including JL in the list of speakers.
