Civil society organizations (CSO), financed by European donor countries and led by academic and intellectual elites, became the main opposition to the FRELIMO and PR FILIPE NYUSI (FN) Government, with the weakening of the political opposition, exacerbated by the death of RENAMO leader AFONSO DHLAKAMA (AD) in 2018, and, more recently, by the death of MDM leader DAVIZ SIMANGO (DS), which opened rifts in both parties (AM 1304).
