Mozambique: Suspected Summary Executions by Rwandan Troops in Cabo Delgado

The presence of more than 4,000 foreign military personnel in Cabo Delgado, engaged in combating the Islamic-inspired armed groups active in the region, has been accompanied by an aggressive propaganda “war” between two parties that, at the same time, complement each other but also rival: on the one hand, the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) and the Rwanda National Police (RNP); on the other hand, the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

The Rwandans, led by Gen INNOCENT KABANDANA, mobilized a group of media in order to highlight the operational capabilities and the lightning results of the men and means engaged on the ground, “cleaning” the regions of Mocímboa da Praia, Palma, Awasse, Quionga and Mbau as well as the dismantling of insurgent bases known as “Siri 1” and “Siri 2” (AM 1316).
