Mozambique: Armed Groups Persist; Government Focus on Insurgency Financing

Previously “clean” areas such as Litandacua and Mapate, located close to the Messalo River, in the districts of Macomia, the most militarized of Cabo Delgado (AM 1362), and Muidumbe, are now again under the control of armed groups and targets of frequent attacks.
Field operations in the two districts are led by the military from SANDF (South Africa) and Botswana, which are clearly insufficient. The Rwandans deployed from Mocímboa da Praia to support SAMIM, being stationed in the region of Chai (Macomia), but the priority of the RDF remains in the districts of Palma and Mocímboa. READ MORE
