Mozambique: Normalization in Cabo Delgado Slow Despite Insurgency Regression

The movements of Islamic-inspired armed cells active in Cabo Delgado indicate a loss of offensive capacity and land occupation - contrary to what happened in 2020 and 2021 with the seizure of important towns in the province, in particular Mocimboa da Praia. The insurgents' rear bases were also identified and neutralized (AM 1388), making the groups “nomadic” and unable to reorganize. Despite the gradual signs of loss of operational capacity by the insurgents, these are still not reflected in the “relief” of traffic in Cabo Delgado, which remains heavily conditioned by security and road control measures. The border region between Cabo Delgado and Tanzania and the areas located along the Messalo River are reported to be practically emptied and interdicted. READ MORE
