Mozambique: Airline Crisis Precipitates Opaque Privatization

The losses of LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique have been accumulating for more than a decade and the company's financial situation is technically bankrupt, dependent on injections of financial resources from the State. The company's debt is close to EUR 110 million and the situation of the fleet requires a large investment.

MATEUS MAGALA, Minister of Transport, announced on 05.APR that the management of LAM will pass to an international commission led by the South African consulting firm Fly Modern Ark (FMA), created in 2016, with no previous management of airlines and civil aviation, but whose main shareholder is one of the main financiers of the ruling party in South Africa (ANC).
