Angola: Control of Media Brings New Embarrassments to Lourenço

The regime's policy for the media has been subject to “reorientations” that duly qualified means consider to be aimed at achieving ends considered proper to a culture of tighter control of the press. Among these purposes are the following:
- Expand the public reach of the media sector under its purview (government and party); ensure that contents are compatible with its political interests.
- Reduce the influence of private and/or informal bodies, especially those installed on online platforms, generally considered adverse.
A new television station, Girassol, known to be linked to the MPLA, started operating in NOV, taking advantage of ZAP structures. Presented as part of a network that includes a radio, news portal and social networks.
