Angola: Death of “Nandó” Reshapes Lourenço's Succession in MPLA

Sectors linked to "Nandó" now tend to lean towards a possible candidacy of Gen. FRANCISCO HIGINO CARNEIRO (HC) as a way to avoid submission to a name imposed by the leadership. The main support base of "Nandó" was in the MPLA parliamentary group, among retired generals and former state officials who worked with him when he headed the security services and the Ministry of the Interior.
