Mozambique: Natural Gas Complex on Alert for Insurgent Offensive

The security perimeter at the natural gas complex on the Afungi peninsula, Cabo Delgado, was breached over the weekend by Islamic-inspired armed groups active in the region, forcing Total (the main operator of the Area 1 consortium), to remove all non-essential personnel for Pemba and Maputo, starting 01.JAN.
Despite the responsiveness, the joint FADM-Rapid Intervention Unit (PRM) force lacks capabilities and reinforcements are urgently awaited.
