Mozambique: Unsorted Matters Between Government and TotalEnergies
The government, which has been forcing the review of agreements in the mining and gas sector, may counter with the review of the tax agreement and the conditions for “domestic gas”. Also a priority for the government - which is facing pressure from VENÂNCIO MONDLANE's supporters to increase compensation for the extractive sector in the country (AM Special Report 87) - is the creation of jobs and businesses to supply the consortiums, through construction companies, supply and import of materials or food or services such as cleaning and security. Moz LNG in Afungi does not have much direct local content (in the sense of employability in the project), but the compensations and social responsibility can enable many new small businesses, notably in agriculture, where training programs are underway.
